Things I build when I see new possibilities

Every act of design begins with a reconfiguration of reality. Below are glimpses of what becomes possible when I follow a new pattern all the way through to form.

Law and the Challenge of Weird Fringe Things

Legal scholars face an unprecedented challenge: emerging technologies are systematically destabilizing the foundational categories upon which law depends. I identified this crisis and invented an entirely new field to address it systematically.

The Problem I Mapped

From de-extinction projects that redefine death to AI systems claiming personhood, from seasteading communities declaring oceanic sovereignty to plant-object cyborgs challenging sentience frameworks, "weird fringe things" are proliferating faster than legal institutions can comprehend them. The Anthropocene has become an incubation space where technological interventions create ontological crises for law itself.

My Methodological Innovation

I developed the "hermeneutics of presence" — moving beyond academia's default interpretive moods of suspicion and uncritical hope to engage genuinely novel technological phenomena. This framework maps how emerging technologies create ontological crises across five key domains: life/death boundaries, sentience/agency definitions, reality/virtuality collapses, temporal/spatial sovereignty claims, and identity/authenticity challenges.

My Breakthrough

I demonstrate how these phenomena collectively signal a fundamental shift toward "self-ratified sovereignty" — entities declaring their own legal status without external validation. This framework reveals how law must evolve to handle reality itself becoming experimental.

Global Uniqueness

This course exists at no other institution worldwide. Students engage with immediate challenges (AI personhood, digital death), medium-term developments (quantum law, collective intelligence), and long-term horizons (reality manipulation, post-human governance).

Systemic Impact

Creates new vocabulary and methodological tools for legal scholars globally. As technological change outpaces juridical adaptation, my framework positions legal scholarship at the forefront of techno-social transformation rather than perpetually reactive to it.

The Larger Vision

Law must become as experimental as the technologies it encounters. My field provides the intellectual infrastructure for that transformation.

Cultural Infrastructure: The Uncommon Future Press Ecosystem

Methodology: Epistemic Dimensionality

Uncommon Future Press operates through our proprietary "Epistemic Dimensionality" framework — mapping hidden geometries of complex ideas for multisensory translation. We identify knowledge that remains inert in outdated vessels and architect entirely new transmission methods.

The Translation Process:

Pattern Recognition

Identify ideas with transformative potential locked behind paywalls/jargon.

Dimensional Mapping

Analyze the spatial, temporal, and emotional geometries of concepts.

Format Innovation

Design cinematic, interactive, or narrative formats that make abstract ideas visceral.

Cultural Integration

Ensure accessibility across different communities and bandwidth environments.

Uncommon Future Press creates an entirely new economic sector where intellectual work becomes cultural media, transforming knowledge production from institutional debris into dignified creative labor that pays fairly.

Economic Model Innovation

Heterodox Climate Finance Frameworks

During my diplomatic tenure, I authored alternative economic approaches for Global South climate resilience, moving beyond traditional World Bank-IMF models to designs that actually serve affected communities.

Innovation

Instead of imposing Western financial instruments, I developed frameworks that integrate indigenous economic wisdom with contemporary climate science, creating more culturally appropriate and effective interventions.

Rebuilding Through Community Vision

Designed comprehensive financial strategy for post-conflict Marawi, prioritizing community-driven recovery over imposed reconstruction models.

Approach

Combined macroeconomic analysis with grassroots consultation to create frameworks that honored local needs while ensuring sustainable development.

Cross-Domain Creative Work

Eyewear Design: Reconciling Visual Paradox

For Cubitts, I designed frames that resolve optical contradictions — creating shapes that shouldn't work visually but do, challenging conventional assumptions about perception and form.

Every design project, whether eyewear or institutions, operates from the same principle: form mediates reality. Change the form, change the experience.

All my projects incorporate aesthetic considerations as strategic elements, not decorative afterthoughts. From Uncommon Future Press multimedia formats to diplomatic presentation design, I approach visual communication as a form of cognitive architecture.

Framework Genesis

Pure Sovereignty Theory

Developed theoretical framework explaining how techno-utopian communities construct legitimate authority through self-ratification rather than external validation — a fundamental shift from Westphalian sovereignty assumptions.

Applications

Instead of imposing Western financial instruments, I developed frameworks that integrate indigenous economic wisdom with contemporary climate science, creating more culturally appropriate and effective interventions.

Hermeneutics of Presence

Designed comprehensive financial strategy for post-conflict Marawi, prioritizing community-driven recovery over imposed reconstruction models.

Impact

Combined macroeconomic analysis with grassroots consultation to create frameworks that honored local needs while ensuring sustainable development.

Institution Building

Climate Revamp Movement

Founded and led institutional redesign of the Philippines' climate policy architecture, creating task forces that enhanced the country's bargaining position in international negotiations.

Innovation

Built coalition structures that bridged grassroots activism with diplomatic strategy, ensuring community voices informed international policy positions.

Diplomatic Platform Creation

Designed and managed high-level bilateral meetings and multilateral engagements, including the 51st ADB Annual Meeting with 3,800 global attendees.

Methodology

Created frameworks for cross-cultural negotiation that honored different epistemological approaches while achieving concrete policy outcomes.
